BBIA COVID Response: Support for Local Businesses
Survey and Open Call Wednesday, July 22nd at 10 am
The mandate of the Barrhaven Business Improvement Area is to improve local business in Barrhaven. In response to the COVID-19 crisis, like local businesses, the Barrhaven BIA had to pivot quickly to modify how we operate and the ways in which we help our members. Today, we would like to hear from you. How are we doing? How can we do better?
Our long-standing and close working relationships with various local stakeholders: Municipal, Provincial and Federal government managers and elected officials, OCOBIA, OBIAA, TABIA, OBoT and Invest Ottawa, have proven to be invaluable throughout the COVID crisis. The BBIA has developed and nurtured these key relationships over many years. As a result, we have been fortunate throughout this period to be able to provide you with timely access to both clarity and insight on the various COVID programs and issues.
Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, the BBIA had developed a marketing plan for 2020 and beyond. We set lofty social media goals: to get all of Barrhaven following @BarrhavenBIA and using the hashtag #MyBarrhaven. Our emphasis is on encouraging residents to Shop Local and to provide timely and relevant information. Earlier this year, we launched a focused digital campaign: Live, Work, Shop, Play. As we now enter Stage 3 in the Province’s phased business reopening strategy, we have modified the campaign to foster accountability and trust with local consumers on behalf of the business community. Live, Work, Shop, Play Safely in #MyBarrhaven is being promoted through toolkits, road signs and digital ad campaigns with great success. Our well-attended B2B series has been adapted through our weekly online open calls and webinars and we will be launching virtual Networking After Work events in the fall.
Please take 5 minutes to complete our brief survey. The data from this survey will help guide a facilitated discussion, lead by Rob Dale at Rhapsody Strategies, on our July 22nd Open Call for Businesses. Thank you in advance for your input and we look forward to seeing you all on the Zoom call!

Concerns Over Commercial Rent
We are raising this concern with all levels of government and we are collecting data. At this point, if you are concerned about not being able to pay rent, it is imperative that you have an honest conversation with your landlord immediately. No property owner wants to have a massive number of empty storefronts heading into an imminent recession so it is important for tenants and landlords to work together. If you’d like advice, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
#SHOPLOCAL ONLINE #MYBARRHAVEN
The Barrhaven BIA has launched an Online Portal to showcase businesses with online sales capabilities as well as those that have currently reopened. This page is getting a lot of traffic from the Barrhaven community as the movement to #ShopLocal continues to grow. We are working hard to keep this page updated but if your business is not listed or you have expanded your service offerings, please email email@example.com.
