Barrhaven BIA Membership Benefits

ADVOCACY

All Barrhaven businesses operating in commercial units, as well as local mall owners, are automatically part of the BBIA. As a business owner, you can influence what happens in our district by providing feedback, getting involved with our BIA Board, Board committees and special event committees.

The Barrhaven BIA acts as a voice for the business community and establishes important relationships with other community voices, such as City council, municipal departments, local community groups (schools, churches, citizen groups, etc.) and institutions (chambers of commerce, committees of council, etc.). The BIA forum can be used to convey community concerns to council and help prompt council to pursue policies and activities to promote and strengthen the community and its unique identity. Likewise, it can provide a feedback mechanism for council issues.

Healthy local economy

The BBIA assists with fostering local economic development and revitalization in our area, stimulating new impetus for tourism and investment in the wider community. Increased business activity improves both the municipal and sales tax base and supports public services of benefit to all. Fostering community engagement can strengthen and build community interest, spirit, pride and networks well beyond the boundaries of the BIA.

Business Recruitment

The BBIA works with commercial and industrial property owners to help ensure that available space is occupied, and that an optimum business and service mix is achieved and maintained. BIA-initiated improvements and activities may help to create and sustain a more vibrant economic environment within an area, which may lead to an increased demand for retail and office space, a decrease in commercial vacancy rates and an increase in property values. It is our priority to work with property owners to bring high-value employment to Barrhaven’s business parks so as to provide daytime, weekday customers for local businesses and to reduce the amount of consumer leakage outside of Barrhaven.

Trusted representation

The BBIA has assembled a team of trusted supporters of the local business district who are active in the local community. Our Board consists of representatives from a number of different sectors; real estate, grocery, restaurant, coffee, banking, pharmacy, fitness, insurance and accounting. Our experienced Executive Director, staff and Board members work closely with City staff, local Councilors- both of whom sit on our Board, business professionals, community and service groups and other relevant stakeholders.

Boost your business with events

The BBIA organizes and works with community partners to hold special events, like the annual Barrhaven Santa Claus Parade and the new Breakfast for Businesses in Barrhaven series, which promote and showcase local businesses. We also support many other local events such as Mattamy’s Canada Day in Barrhaven and the Top Shelf Ball Hockey Tournament. These events encourage people to explore what our district has to offer. Take advantage of these events to make an impression and build customer loyalty.

Prime Location

We are the southern gateway to the City of Ottawa located just 20 minutes from downtown. The Ottawa International Airport is 10 minutes away and made easily accessible with the opening of the new Vimy Memorial Bridge. We are on the 416 Highway providing easy access to the US and Highway 401. Highway 417 is only minutes away!

A Clean and Safe District

BIAs can help to revitalize and improve as well as help make an area cleaner and safer. The BBIA offers a weekly graffiti patrol and removal service to all local malls and businesses.

Business Resources

Our website has tips and tools including our Market Study, Economic Analysis Report and other valuable links to resources that business members can use to strengthen and grow their business. www.DiscoverBarrhaven.com

Area Branding

Tap into the overall branding, marketing and promotion of the Barrhaven business district. Members receive marketing of their business in both our print and online Business Directories. Take advantage of our banner program along the Strandherd, Greenbank and Woodroffe corridors. Get Busy shopping in Barrhaven and supporting local businesses!

A Vibrant District

All businesses in the area, whether retail, professional, dining or finance, may gain advantages from the improved local atmosphere and ambience that a successful BIA helps to create. Improvements and activities may retain more local customers and attract more visitors. Cost savings to members may result from improved integration of capital funding and promotional activities.
Our efforts improve the quality of life in Barrhaven through enhanced ambience, choices in local shopping and professional services, job opportunities, cleanup and safety programs, and community get-togethers.
