In November 2025, the Barrhaven BIA honoured 7 of our community’s oldest independently operated businesses with Legacy Awards. Barrhaven’s business community was built by visionaries, like these businesses, who believed i community, invested in its future, and helped create the vibrant, welcoming place we call home today.
Pete & Gus Meat Market – 2201 Jockvale Road
Since 1978, the Pete & Gus Meat Market has held a special place in Barrhaven’s history as one of our longest-standing neighbourhood businesses. As the community transformed around them, they continued to embody the values of small-town hospitality, hard work, and genuine connection.
On March 28, 1978, Pete & Gus opened the doors to offer quality meat at the most economical prices. Owners Pete & Bonnie Lucas, followed their dreams and raised their two daughters. While running the business, Peter also taught Retail Meat Cutting at Algonquin College and was also President of the Canadian Professional Meat Cutters Association.
In July of 2022, after 44 amazing years, it was time to welcome Case DeCarlo as the new owner. Case and his mother, Miyuki, have continued the family legacy of customer service and quality. Case studied with Pete for 2 years, becoming confident and prepared to look after your needs.
