- Government of Canada: Starting a Business – This guide provides the steps to start a business from planning, choosing a name, registering, applying for permits, financing, and more!
- Ontario Business Registry – The Ontario Business Registry (OBR) allows businesses and not-for-profit corporations to complete over 90 transactions online, including registering, incorporating, and updating their information.
- Understand the Law on Workplace Violence and Harassment – Workers, supervisors and employers have rights and duties when dealing with workplace violence and harassment. Use this guide to know yours.
- City of Ottawa: Get Help Starting or Growing Your Business – this portal contains many great links including programs, funding, support and more!
- Invest Ottawa: Business Programs for Entrepreneurs and Small Businesses – Our entrepreneurship programs and education centre provide the knowledge, expertise and resources to ideation, early-stage and established entrepreneurs and business owners who aim to start or grow a product- or service-based business.
- Ottawa Public Library: Resources for Businesses – Check out their resources on how to start a business and how to do market research for your business.
- Ottawa Public Health: Mental Health Resources for Workplaces – Ottawa Public Health in collaboration with its partners launches the Mental Health, Addictions and Substance Use Health Business Support Toolkit. The toolkit is here to support local businesses and their dedicated employees, with a suite of practical resources designed to enhance safety, health, and overall community well-being.
- Ottawa Public Health: Operating a Food Business – The City ensures a high level of food safety in area restaurants, cafeterias, and other food premises is maintained through regular inspections. Public health inspectors monitor all aspects of food operation to confirm that businesses are complying with provincial regulations. The inspectors also make sure any deficiencies are quickly corrected.
- Workplace Safety & Prevention Services – We help businesses and workers prevent workplace injuries and illnesses. That means more people coming home safe to their families.

Check out these websites for grant and financial assistance programs available to businesses in Ottawa:
- Government of Canada Business Benefits Finder – Find programs and services to help your business grow!
- Digital Main Street – DMS offers grants to small businesses looking to enhance their digital presence. They also offer regular FREE webinars on topics like social media, email marketing, and e-commerce.
- Canada Summer Jobs Program – this program connects employers with young employees looking to gain valuable and meaningful work experience. For-profit employers are eligible for reimbursement of wage costs at a rate of 50% of minimum wage. Applications are opened annually from late fall into December.
- Eastern Ontario Development Fund – The Eastern Ontario Development Fund provides support for projects and investments to existing businesses, municipalities and not-for-profit organizations for economic development in eastern Ontario. The objective of the program is to provide financial support and services to help growing companies in eastern Ontario make investments to:
- grow their businesses
- improve productivity
- invest in innovation and skills development
- pursue new markets
- generate broad positive regional economic impact
- create new good, sustainable jobs
- CRA: My Business Account – Sign in or register to view and update your business tax information, file and submit returns, and access your GST/HST, payroll, corporation income taxes, excise taxes, excise duties and other levies accounts.
