In November 2025, the Barrhaven BIA honoured 7 of our community’s oldest independently operated businesses with Legacy Awards. Barrhaven’s business community was built by visionaries, like these businesses, who believed i community, invested in its future, and helped create the vibrant, welcoming place we call home today.
Nepean School of Music/Hummingbird Music – 900 Greenbank Road
Founded in 1976, the Nepean School of Music is one of Barrhaven’s longest-standing cultural institutions. For an amazing 50 years, they have nurtured the musical talents of children, youth, and adults, helping students discover their confidence, creativity, and passion for the arts. Through decades of lessons, concerts, and community involvement, they have played a vital role in shaping Barrhaven’s artistic landscape.
The Nepean School of Music offers music lessons for students of all ages and skill levels. With over 600 students, a dozen programs and teachers with knowledge in almost every instrument, they can offer every style of lessons from jazz, classical and pop to suit your needs.
If a structured classical approach is your goal, their teachers are trained to teach in all levels of the Royal Conservatory of Music and Conservatory Canada. If performance is your goal, their very successful band programs and semi-annual solo performance opportunities are available.
Hummingbird Music has grown with the community and also includes a recording studio (Pebble Studios) and performance space (Hummingbird Hall) on site.
