PART 1 in a series highlighting our 2025-2030 strategic pillars: Downtown Barrhaven

In late 2024, the Barrhaven BIA adopted a new Strategic Plan for 2025-2030. Over the coming weeks we will be highlighting the 5 strategic pillars that will guide our work over the next 5 years.

Since 2018, the Barrhaven BIA has served as a valued and supportive partner to both the city and area landowners in the development of the Civic Complex in Downtown Barrhaven. For the last eight years, the BBIA has invested in the promotion and protection of great transformative opportunities for the Barrhaven area, especially the core commercial area of Barrhaven. With funding in place from the municipal, provincial and federal governments, the project is now well underway. As such, we have re-committed to the following as a pillar in our new strategic and operational plans.

Commitments

  1. Assist with the creation and activation of thoughtfully designed public spaces that enhance downtown vibrancy
  2. Promote the Incorporation of flexible arts and cultural spaces to attract and engage creatives and remote workers
  3. Continued meaningful engagement with the City in Development Conversations Surrounding Barrhaven’s Downtown

Objectives

  1. Downtown District: Ensure Downtown Barrhaven plans are advanced, well-managed and funded.
  2. Public Space: Downtown public spaces are thoughtfully designed and actively and effectively programmed.
  3. Arts & Culture: There are a variety of flexible creative and gathering spaces downtown.
  4. Diverse Residential: Downtown’s residential population grows with more thoughtfully planned, attainable, and diverse housing types and prices.

Unlike traditional suburban centers, Downtown Barrhaven will evolve into a self-sustaining, vibrant urban hub with a strong sense of community. Anchored by diverse retail, dining, and entertainment options, it will offer a walkable, transit-friendly, and experience-driven environment tailored to modern lifestyles.
