Meet Hunter, our first Barrhaven “Kid” Insider! As we are approaching March Break, we thought we’d find out what kids like to do around here; whether you’re sticking around for a “stay-cation” or just looking for something to do on the weekends, Hunter has the inside scoop to stay in the community and #shoplocal!
Hunter is 7 years old and has lived in Barrhaven his whole life “because we’ve never moved out”. When asked if he would like to move, his respons
e is a hard no as he really likes living here. In his spare time, when not out scoping out our local businesses, Hunter enjoys drawing, “having fun”, going to the park, and Minecraft. He is excited to share some of his Barrhaven favourites with all of you!
Favourite Restaurant – Boston Pizza
Why? – “I like their pizza”. Any other reasons? – “I like their pizza!” We can’t argue with that!
Favourite Treat – Chocolats Favoris
Insider recommendation for the best ice cream – “Vanilla ice cream, cotton candy chocolate (the blue one), and don’t forget to ask for sprinkles! Oh and get it in a cup, not a cone!”
Favourite Park – Moloughney Park
“It’s close to my house and has a bunch of stuff – play structure, soccer field, sledding hill, soccer field, baseball diamond, big field, is that enough?”
Favourite After School Activity – Code Ninjas
What’s that about? “Learning how to code. It’s how you pr
ogram things. It hasn’t opened yet except when it does open it would be an internet insult to say that it’s not open yet.”
(Code Ninjas opens later this month and clearly this 7 year old wants this article to be timeless).
Favourite Camp – Musical Theatre Camp – Selina’s Studio
“To learn how to do musical theatre”. Hunter attended this one week camp last summer and was excited to perform as “Cow 3” in the culminating performance.
Favourite Weekend Activity – A Gym Tale
“You can do whatever you want. They have a play structure – a pirate ship and a castle. I like to go to my secret base.” The location of this secret base was not revealed and when asked about it again, Hunter refused to even acknowledge its existence.
Favourite Toy Store – Toys on Fire
Hunter loves POP! Figures and the selection at Toys on Fire can’t be beat. Hunter has a growing collection of the Harry Potter themed POP! figures. He also recommends checking out their board games and BeyBlades!
Favourite Place to Grab a Drink – East Side Marios or Mac’s Milk
“There are two, I can’t choose!” At East Side Marios, Hunter recommends the Cotton Candy Milkshake (parent pro tip: make a special trip for this as Hunter has been sometimes known to not eat his dinner after getting the milkshake!). For a quick dr
ink while on the go, Hunter says you can’t go wrong with a Froster from Mac’s.
Favourite Fast Food – A&W
“For the best burgers and root beer”.
