We raised a “mountain” of toys and $750 for Toy Mountain. They are extremely grateful and have let me know that the cash will be used immediately to purchase what they need most; both baby and older childrens' toys.

We are all looking forward to the 2017 pilot of Airbrowze Mobile App and the launch of our Barrhaven Look Book marketing tool.

We are truly excited by the prospects of employment coming to our community bringing much needed daytime consumers. Employment will also bring new residents to Barrhaven as many employees will want to live and play where they work. There is much work to be done but we are at the table with some fabulous partners. I’m confident that, together, we will succeed in growing Barrhaven into a bustling employment hub. We are fortunate to live and do business in such a great community with so much to offer!

I look forward to the new direction we are taking for 2017; moving to a digital office. I plan to spend the first couple of months in the new year getting organized with our new system to ensure that we are set up for success the whole year through.

Check out some of the photos from the event posted on our Barrhaven BIA Facebook page- photos. Thank you to CIBC for sponsoring the event!

Barrhaven Santa Claus Parade Sponsors Make Special Donations

The Barrhaven Santa Claus Parade’s business sponsors have stepped up to help the Barrhaven Food Cupboard in a big way. Regretfully, due to high winds, they had to cancel the parade for the first time in 19 years.  They looked into rescheduling it but, given that there are several hundred people involved in the operation of an event of this size and complexity as well as numerous City departments, it was not possible.

The annual parade is a major fundraiser for the BFC and they are very short on supplies this year.  “While the Barrhaven Food Cupboard took a major hit in its fundraising efforts due to the cancellation of the parade, our generous sponsors rose to the occasion and donated the unused sponsorship dollars.  We are pleased to announce that an $8000 donation is being made to the BFC, which matches the amount raised during last year’s parade”, announced Andrea Steenbakkers, Executive Director of the Barrhaven Business Improvement Area.  “We ask that you please support these local businesses that give back to the community”, adds Steenbakkers;

MYERS Toyota/Hyundai/Volkswagen, Tomlinson, Ross Independent, Trade Secrets, Heart & Crown Barrhaven, Surgenor Barrhaven, Tim Hortons, Southpointe Dental, Goodlife Fitness, Primo Storage, Dean Ryans, Mattamy Homes, Allstate, Wind Mobile, Barrhaven Legion, Barrhaven Lions Club, Marlene L. Grant Professional Corporation, Barrhaven Optometric, Mr. Lube, Royal LePage Team Realty and Ottawa Special Events.

In addition, they are donating $400 to each registered school, as a token of their appreciation for contributing to great community spirit.

For 2017, our 20th Anniversary parade and 150th anniversary of Confederation, we are planning a spectacular event!  We are moving the date to a Saturday evening, November 18th, for the first time.  We will also have a smaller indoor event prepared as a back up in the rare case that we need to cancel again if there is very heavy snow accumulation, ice rain or high winds.  Happy holidays everyone!

over $7000 raised at 13th Annual barrhaven Community Networking Breakfast

Tuesday, March 7th, 2017, 7:00 am to 9:00 am, Cedarhill Golf & Country Club

Thank you to all who contributed. Together, we raised $7228.90 For Top Shelf Youth Programming in our community. As the NROCRC outlined today, there is a great need for this type of service in Barrhaven. It is also timely given the youth opioid crisis in the west end of our City. See the full presentation here.

The select charity is the Top Shelf Ball Hockey Tournament for Youth programming in Barrhaven. Programming is currently being developed in partnership by the Barrhaven Salvation Army Church and NROCRC. The objectives for addressing Youth Mental Health issues in Barrhaven are a driving force in the planning, development and implementation of partner programs and services.

Many thanks to our organizing partners; Barrhaven Lions Club, Barrhaven Legion Branch 641, South Nepean Rotary Club, West Ottawa Board of Trade, Barrhaven Kiwanis & the Barrhaven Food Cupboard.
